Westmoreland County Launches Comprehensive Crisis Response System

New Mobile Crisis HUB and Walk-In Center Signal Milestone in Mental Health Support

Westmoreland County is taking a bold step forward in expanding mental health services with the launch of a new, comprehensive crisis response system. Guided by an implementation plan developed in partnership with Recovery Innovations, this initiative is designed to enhance and modernize crisis care in alignment with national best practices.

The detailed implementation report, grounded in SAMHSA’s National Guidelines for Behavioral Health Crisis Care and the Crisis Now model, outlines each core component necessary for a high-functioning crisis system. Drawing on data analysis and stakeholder engagement, the report presents a clear roadmap for establishing and sustainably managing a full continuum of care in Westmoreland County.

A Major Milestone: Mobile Crisis HUB Opens in Derry, PA

As part of the plan’s first phase, Westmoreland County is proud to announce the grand opening of its new Mobile Crisis HUB, located at the Westmoreland Community Action (WCA) Center in Derry, PA. This HUB will serve as the central dispatch point for the Mobile Crisis Team, improving response times and bringing services closer to those in need.

This Derry HUB is the first of five that will be established across the county at Welcome Centers in Greensburg, Scottdale, Monessen, and New Kensington. By embedding response teams in key areas, Westmoreland County aims to reduce the strain on emergency services and deliver timely, community-based care.

Walk-In Crisis Center on the Horizon

Another major component of the crisis response expansion is the development of a 24/7 Walk-In Center, a project awarded to UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital through a formal RFP process. Once operational, this facility will offer round-the-clock access to critical crisis intervention services, ensuring that help is available whenever it’s needed most.

Help Starts Here

WCA’s investment in mobile crisis teams represents a major stride in improving mental health care accessibility, outcomes, and equity across Westmoreland County. The community showed strong support at the open house for the Derry HUB on May 5, with attendees from county and state leadership joining local residents to celebrate the milestone.

Westmoreland County’s new crisis response system is more than a program—it’s a promise to meet residents where they are, with dignity, compassion, and the support they need to thrive.
