Here's a special message from David Bradley, CEO of the National Community Action Foundation, regarding the 2016 congressional and presidential elections:
Wow! What an election. Although the results of last night's congressional and presidential elections have shaken the Washington establishment (and nearly everyone else) to the core, a lot of what occurred was actually predictable.
We expected the Republicans to retain control of the Senate. They did. And, most importantly, those members who are friends of the Community Action network, on both sides of the aisle, will all be returning next year. All of our key allies are returning to the House of Representatives.
For many months we have been meeting with Trump's congressional Republican supporters, seeking help in carrying our agenda with an incoming Trump Administration. Many have enthusiastically said yes to our request, and already today some actions are taking place.
Although this is one of the very few times in our program's 52 year history that we have had to face a Republican White House coupled with a Republican controlled House and Senate, our bi-partisan Congressional work for so many years could create a number of exciting opportunities for all of us.
Make no mistake, we have a hard, long road ahead of us. 2017 will be a very busy year.
But I am confident that if we keep our focus, stay on message and continue our bi-partisan approach, 2017 will not only be a most consequential year for our country, but also for Community Action.
