U.S. House Passes Continuing Resolution Doubling Weatherization, Nearly Doubling LIHEAP
One Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution that would more than double funding for Weatherization and nearly double funding to the Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
The FY 2009 Continuing Resolution would bring the Weatherization program to $477 million and raise LIHEAP to $5.1 billion. The resolution would fund the government until March 6, 2009.
CAAP’s source in Washington, The National Community Action Foundation, said that The Senate is not expected to make any changes to the programs as they pass through the senate chamber today (Sept. 25).
The House was able to jell on the Continuing Resolution thanks to the hard work of Community Action ally Rep. David Hobson (R-OH) and the support of Appropriations leaders David Obey (D-WI) and Pete Visclosky (D-IN).
CAAP will continue to provide more information on the Continuing Resolution as it becomes available.
