Two CAAP Member Agencies Praised by DCED for Weatherization Efforts

Community Action Agencies the Commission on Economic Opportunity of Luzerne County and the Scranton/Lackawanna Human Development Agency were praised in an article in the Scranton Times-Tribune by the Department of Community and Economic Development for the agencies’ outstanding weatherization programs.

George Cornelius, acting secretary at the Department of Community and Economic Development, told lawmakers that the two Community Action Agencies are leading the state in weatherizing low-income households. The article noted that the Commission on Economic Opportunity of Luzerne County has already completed 26% of the agency’s planned weatherization projects while Scranton/Lackawanna Human Development Agency has completed 17% of its projects.

Secretary Cornelius is quoted in the story as saying that the two agencies are star performers and attributed the success of the weatherization programs to good management at the agencies.

The Commission on Economic Opportunity of Luzerne County plans to weatherize 1,070 homes with the stimulus weatherization money. Scranton/Lackawanna Human Development Agency is working to weatherize 691 households.

Pennsylvania’s 43 Community Action Agencies received $252 million in stimulus weatherization money to help make low-income households more energy-efficient.
