CSO Collects Award from IRS

Central Susquehanna Opportunities, Inc. received the Best Supporting Partner for Volunteer Tax Preparation SPEC PA-DE Territory award from the Internal Revenue Service for their diligent work in helping low-income families prepare their taxes and apply for Earn Income Tax Credit. Over the 2009 tax season, Central Susquehanna Opportunities’ EITC tax preparation sites brought nearly $300,000 in tax credit back to the community.

The agency’s Northumberland location filed 197 tax returns, a 9% increase from last year. The fillings returned $284,456 back to the community. The second location in Montour County prepared taxes for 106 residents bringing $92,039 back to the low-income residents.

Central Susquehanna Opportunities is a member of central Pennsylvania’s “Money in Your Pocket” Program. The alliance between community service organizations expanded this year to include the Berwick United Way.
