The Community Action Association of Pennsylvania is partnering with SafeLink Wireless to help aid CAAP’s member agencies in providing free emergency cell phones to low-income individuals.
The government supported SafeLink Wireless program provides a free cell phone and month airtime to low-income individuals that meet income qualifying guidelines. The cell phone programs offer up to 250 minutes per month that include local and long distance calling, text messaging, and voicemail with caller id. The phone allows individuals to respond to job interview inquires and offers a mobile point of contact for family emergencies.
All three programs also allow for free unlimited calls to 411 directory assistance and 911 emergency calls and tracking.
No credit checks, contracts or fees are required to participate in the SafeLink program. The program is available in Pennsylvania and 22 other states. Cell\ phones activated through the program can make and receive calls anywhere in the United States with cell phone coverage.
The SafeLink program is run by TracFone Wireless.
CAAP member agencies will receive a packet in the mail in the next few weeks containing information on how each agency can participate in the program. Agencies can also enroll in the program by clicking on this link to the SafeLink website.
