CAAP takes great pride in the achievements of all of our member agencies, their staff, volunteers, community partners and leaders.
As an association committed to empowering Community Action Agencies to solve the problems of their local communities and address the needs of low-income Pennsylvanians, all contributions that enhance the quality of that effort are treasured. Some individuals, however, go above and beyond the call of duty in their daily work, touching the lives of the clients in special ways, making the road just a little easier for the rest of us and encouraging all of us to even greater accomplishments.
CAAP is pleased to present the establishment of the CAAP Distinguished Service Awards program. In its inaugural year the awards program will offer the Sargent Shriver Community Service Award. Additional awards will be offered in future years.
Named after Sargent Shriver, the CAAP award will honor individuals who represent all the qualities Sargent Shriver demonstrated as a champion of a number of social programs and organizations, including Community Action, to show appreciation for that person's work in community service.
Sargent Shriver was the founder of the Peace Corps and developer of a multi-faceted War on Poverty designed to transform the economic and social roots of the conflict over civil rights in America. Like the Peace Corps, the programs of the War on Poverty - including Head Start, Job Corps, VISTA, Community Action Program, Legal Services to the Poor and Foster Grandparents - continue to serve Americans today.
The CAAP Executive Board will accept nominations until February 28, 2011. The award will be present at Embracing Change, the CAAP annual conference, March 23 - 25, 2011. Nomination requirements follow.
